History
Erica Harris was an organizer and trainer with SEIU. Around 2004, she worked on campaigns in Georgia with Local 1985 and other areas of the south before beginning her work with SEIU in Michigan.
During her time in Michigan, she was the Education and Strategic Campaign Director for SEIU Healthcare and the Organizing Director of the MI Quality Home Care Campaign. While holding these positions, Ms. Harris was involved in campaigns to organize and mobilize union activity with home health care workers, most prolifically in Wayne County, Genesee County, and Hillsdale, Michigan. The main objectives of the campaigns were to expand union membership, achieve healthcare access to home care workers, and improve their wages.
She traveled frequently, attending many conferences and workshops to enhance her skills and make contacts. In her role as a trainer she also led workshops to instruct members on how to be active participants in SEIU’s activities.
