History
Bob Barber began reporting on farm labor issues in California when he was a writer for the United Farm Workers publication, El Malcriado, in 1974. After that time, he worked for several years as a freelance writer, reporting for KSAN and KPFA radio stations in the Bay Area of California. During the next two years (1975-1977), Barber covered agricultural issues focusing on a critical period in farm labor organizing under California's Agricultural Labor Relations Board. It was during that time that Cesar Chavez and other UFW officials were battling the powerful Teamsters union and many California growers for secret ballot union elections.
